Last week I talked about the best parenting book I’ve ever read, called Give Them Grace. This week I want to share a children’s Bible with you that I have come to love.
My children are five and seven, and we’ve been through at least a dozen different Bibles, many more than once. That’s why I hesitated to get yet another one. How many ways can you tell the same stories?
Turns out, there is another way.
The Jesus Storybook Bible doesn’t just tell individual stories—it tells one big story. The biggest, grandest, most important story we or our children will ever need to hear. This Bible ties together the Old Testament with the New. Every story whispers Jesus’s name.
I could go on, but I think I’ll let you get a taste for yourself from an excerpt at the beginning of the book.
“No, the Bible isn’t a book of rules, or a book of heroes. The Bible is most of all a Story. It’s an adventure story about a young Hero who comes from a far country to win back his lost treasure. It’s a love story about a brave Prince who leaves his palace, his throne—everything—to rescue the one he loves. It’s like the most wonderful of fairy tales that has come true in real life!
You see, the best thing about this Story is—it’s true…[It’s a] Story of how God loves his children and comes to rescue them.”
I love how this simple children’s Bible speaks to my own heart. I haven’t read any other like it.
Do you have favorite books you share with your children? I’d love to hear what they are!
