Short and Sweet Friday: Are We There Yet?

Our family just returned from our first short-term mission trip. We drove three hours to His Mansion, located in New Hampshire. We do not have a television (that works) in our car and although my boys are definitely in the minority, they do not own a Nintendo DS. So they read. Ate. Looked out the window. Teased one another. And asked plenty of times "Are we there yet?"

My youngest, Noah, even busied himself by imitating a GPS voice. We pulled over for an ice cream break after only an hour of driving and he said, with all seriousness, "Arriving at destination."

What does your family do on long car trips?

  1. I love how your son imitated the GPS. We play lots of rounds of Which would you rather, coming up with some really creative options. We also try to imagine what kind of lives people lead in the passing cars.

    1. Love that imagination game, Wendy. I'm definitely stealing that one. ;)

  2. Noah sounds cute! How creative. We play games, like the word game where you pick a category (like a food), say your food and then whatever letter the food ends with, you have to start the next word (also a food) with that letter. We play that with animals, too. It keeps us occupied for hours.

  3. How fun! We bought a portable DVD player for super-long car trips. It's definitely a life-saver sometimes. And since we save it for only long trips, it's a special treat for our kids.

    1. I can imagine that as lifesaving, Sarah. And because it's portable, it's probably a life-saver on a few other occasions...lol
